WHY ARE HEADSHOTS IMPORTANT?

Headshots can be one of the first things casting or potential clients look at. Therefore, you want a series of headshots that stand out from the rest and showcase you and your personality.

A great headshot indicates a level of professionalism and how serious you are about your goals/career.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR HEADSHOT SESSION

Outfit choices

Be prepared and plan outfits before the session and bring a few options with you.

Keep things simple - blacks, whites, nudes and greys are a good starting point. Try not to wear anything with large logos on them.

Make sure clothes are crease and lint free. I do have a handy clothes steamer and lint roller at the ready, just in case.

Consider who will be seeing these photos and bring an outfit that fits the role you are after.

Hair and makeup

Do not go extreme with the makeup - keep it simple and start off soft and neutral. Casting directors want to see you and your personality shine through. They also want to see how they can adapt ideas onto you for their particular projects/roles.

With your hair, do not do anything out of the ordinary and keep to what you would normally do. Feel free to being straighteners/curlers so you have the option to change it up during the shoot.

If you are looking for headshots to support your brand/business the above suggestions still apply. However, consider how you want to come across to potential clients. This will then help you think about your style of hair and makeup to use.

Be yourself

Nerves are normal and they mean you care about doing a great job - which you will! Try and relax before your session and honestly after 10 minutes you will be in full swing and enjoying the process.
